Bringing your child for their first ever visit to the dentist or for their regular check-up, you can be assured that our team will make sure your child receives the best dental care. Our friendly staff are trained in helping your child through their dental visits making it a positive and fun experience for them.
Your child’s first dental visit
- A gentle but thorough examination of the teeth, jaw, gums and oral tissues to monitor growth and development and observe any problem areas
- If indicated, a gentle cleaning, which includes polishing teeth and removing any plaque buildup or stains
- Discuss preventive techniques including fissure sealing of molar teeth and fluoride applications to help keep your children’s teeth strong
- A demonstration on correct tooth brushing technique.
Fissure sealants are a simple and effective way of protecting young teeth from decay. The grooves in children’s teeth are often one of the most difficult areas to keep clean. As the grooves are deep, they can be difficult to reach with a toothbrush.
As a means of protecting the teeth, your dentist /dental therapist will clean the grooves thoroughly and then seal over with a coating. The fissure sealant protects the tooth by preventing any future bacteria from settling in the hard to reach grooves.
Teaching our child good habits of brushing and flossing, and minimizing sugar and eating healthy are vital in our children’s growth.
As parents we need to help our child brush their teeth until they are old enough to brush by themselves. Once they are brushing on their own, a twice daily brushing habit with a soft tooth brush will help to keep them cavity free with healthy gums.
Just like adults, we recommend regular 6 monthly check-ups. The check-ups will assess that the teeth are healthy and all growing correctly.
Early Orthodontic Diagnosis & Management
Early intervention treatment consists of habit correction and expansion.
Bad habits for growth and development of the face and mouth are lip licking, thumb sucking, finger sucking, tongue thrusting, incorrect swallow, mouth breathing.
We offer guidance and treatments to minimize these habits.
